Home Invasions Spike During Summer

Heading off for summer vacation? Beware of summer burglars.

One in five homes will experience a break-in or home invasion this year, and summer is prime time for burglars itching to bust into empty homes while homeowners are far away on vacation.

An infographic posted on the Huffington Post shows the staggering details. Over 28,000 property crimes occur each day with more than 8,000 of them burglaries. That's one burglary every 10 seconds.

To keep your home protected, your best bet is to install a home security system that alerts an outside service. Otherwise, have a neighbor or relative keep a close eye on your home while you're away.

If a crook does succeed in breaking in, don't worry: home insurance will cover any damage to your home and reimburse you for any stolen property.
