Is Healthcare Reform Dead?
|
With the election of Scott Brown to Ted Kennedy's former Senate seat, health insurance reform seems to be at a crossroads.
Does the loss of the Democrat's 60-seat, filibuster-proof majority mean health insurance reform is dead? Possibly.
The Democrats, and even some Republicans, are considering their options. According to most experts, those options are limited, but there are a few. The Democrats may choose to push ahead with existing legislation, though that certainly faces many hurdles. Dems may also choose to scale back efforts in the hopes of garnering at least some Republican support.
No matter what happens from here on out, it does seem safe to say that the massive health insurance overall President Obama had originally sought is probably not going to happen.
What do you think Congressional leaders should do at this point? Are you disappointed that reform efforts may not succeed?

Health care is no longer available to anyone, it is instead a perk for the rich and politically connected.
I agree with your argument.
I think Congressional leaders should do more at this point.
Health insurance reform is not dead.
I think that you have it more or less right. I think that the political climate in washington is going to make it very difficult to garner any considerable republican support. I'm unsure how anything meaningful will be accomplished unless it is scaled back to be really sad and minimal. It mostly boils down to health insurance reform, not cost control. That is a starting place however. I am currently using Atlas Insurance and I don't have any problem with my insurance. I have heard many horrible stories about other insurance companies, however.
I do not sometimes comment on blogs but I needed to stop in and tell you thanks for posting this, I fully agree and hopefully folks will see your argument.
