Health Insurance and the Voices of the Uninsured
|
The health insurance debate in Washington has been firing on all cylinders for the better part of year now, and while the polemic has certainly been passionate and entertaining, I think there has been a relative lack of input from the people who will be most affected by the proposed changes--the uninsured themselves. Aside from the "town hall meetings" a few months back that were undoubtedly dominated by the posturing and proselytizing of those on the more extreme sides of the political spectrum, where are uninsured Americans letting their voices be heard?
Here at InsWeb, we're often more focused on other types of insurance--car insurance, home insurance, etc.--and it's safe to say health insurance has probably gotten short shrift from our editors. But I'd like to change that. Going forward, I'd like to help provide a forum for uninsured Americans to talk about what they like and dislike about the proposed health insurance legislation being considered by the Congress. I'll continue to post regularly about what I see as important developments, and I'll highlight interesting and informative posts from our readers.
So, if you're uninsured, do you think the current proposed legislation will make a difference in your life? What are you excited about? What are your concerns?

I look forward to reading more.
I also like your blog, it has given me some additional info about how one can get health insurance that is affordable , and have good coverage.
As someone in the industry, my primary concern over the proposed health care legislation is the cost. Supposedly all this is going to save us money, but if our our other government programs, such as Medicare and Social Security are in peril, how can we possibly afford to have another national insurance program? Does the costs even consider the infrastructure necessary to administer a national insurance program? Only time will tell.
Regards,
Richard
