The Viper SmartStart can be used from virtually anywhere iPhone service is available.

Mike Simmons, CEO of Directed Electronics, gave a demonstration by starting a car in California using his iPhone in Kansas City.

Viper SmartStart comes with a remote start feature that works on any vehicle with power windows and locks. It does not require an existing remote start feature. It is on sale at Best Buy for $499.

Whatever happened to car keys?
