Looking for iPhone 3G Insurance? You're Not Alone

If you own an iPhone 3G, you already know that AT&T doesn't offer iPhone insurance. In fact, AT&T's Wireless Phone Insurance specifically excludes the iPhone 3G and other iPhone models. But for all you iPhone 3G users out there, here's a bit of good news: iPhone 3G insurance is available.

With a run-of-the-mill phone, not having cell phone insurance is no biggie. In fact, we've already explained that cell phone insurance is pretty much a huge rip off. But when you're lugging around a brand-new iPhone 3G worth over $300--enough to feed a small third-world village for a six months--insurance is definitely something to consider.

If you need iPhone insurance, consider the following options:

  • Geek Squad's Black Tie Protection will insure your iPhone against a wide range of perils, including battery failure and normal wear-and-tear, but it'll cost you about $15 per month.

  • State Farm home insurance endorsement. If you have home insurance with State Farm, you can include an iPhone under your personal articles endorsement for roughly $30 per year.

  • For roughly $50 per year, SquareTrade offers insurance for iPhones and covers in case of drops, spills, water damage, battery failures and much more. Coverage must be purchased within 30 days of purchasing a phone.

Can't afford any of these options? Here's the best alternative: the iPhone anti-theft disguise.
