Tour de France and My Renters Insurance Policy

July 23, 2009 | By: Matt | Comments ( 3 ) | Posted in: Renters

If you're like me, you have watched every stage of the 2009 Tour de France so far. While watching Alberto Contador win today's time trial, and more than likely will win the whole thing, I did a little bit of maintenance on my own bike.

While my bike isn't nearly as technologically advanced (hmm, maybe that's why I haven't won a bike race yet?) as the bikes Lance Armstrong or Mark Cavendish use, I still do my best to maintain it and protect it. To protect it against theft or damage, I added my bike on to my renters insurance policy.

I do try to do a couple of bike races and duathalons a year and my bike is a nice road bike and was pretty expensive when I bought it. And since I was already protecting my other possessions with my renters insurance policy, it made sense to make sure my bike was protected in case it was stolen or damaged by a fire.

I do keep my racing bike in my apartment since I am too lazy to go to my garage and get it out of there. But when I updated my renters insurance policy after I got married to include my wife's stuff, I realized I didn't have my bike on my policy. If you do have pro level time trial bike (I'm jealous of you), you will probably need to purchase a floater, or an add on coverage, to fully cover the cost of your bike.

With the 2009 Tour de France almost over, it's amazing to think of how hard it must be to ride your bike 100 miles a day for almost a month. I also hope that these riders have good health insurance policies with all the crashes, especially Jens Voigt's crash this year.

This blog rocks! I gotta say, that I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I'm glad I found your blog. Thanks,

A definite great read...:)
