Zombies X-ing? Better Check Your Car Insurance Coverage!

Yes folks you heard right--thar be Zombies afoot! At least that is what hackers in Austin, Texas, would like drivers to think. On Wednesday, hackers changed several roadside electronic signs to read "Zombies Ahead! Run for your lives!" Others read: "The end is near! Caution! Zombies ahead!" Hackers recommended that drivers "Run for cold climates!"--apparently zombies like warm weather.

While the likelihood of crashing into a zombie on the highway is slim (I won't say impossible, who knows, really?), there is a great chance that you'll have to dodge an animal while driving at some point. Deer, moose, chickens crossing the road for who-knows-what reason--they each pose a threat to your vehicle and your safety.

In 2007, 223 people were killed animal caused accidents, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and Texas is at the top of that list (sorry, no zombie data--yet).

Make sure that you have a proper amount of car insurance collision coverage, and check with your car insurance provider to make sure they cover accidents involving deer (can't hurt to ask about the zombies, too. I hear they are fast walkers.)

The spokesperson for the City of Austin, Sara Hartley, told the press that "The sign's content was humorous, but the act of changing it wasn't." Turns out the hackers cut a padlock to get into the electronic signs' computers.
